The First Semester of College (So Far!)

From UCE to getting ready for my first finals week, my first semester has been rather memorable. Here are some highlights, in pictures! 

1. Taking on the Spiritual Life Book Club and Reading Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality

Well, the Spiritual Life Book Club discussed Donald Miller's book Blue Like Jazz: Nonreligious Thoughts on Christian Spirituality. I thought that would be an interesting book to read. However, there were not that many people that were  interested in reading this book: one, the timing conflicted with many activities, and two, people just don't like to read more than what they can. Basically it flopped like Soul Pancake. There were some aspects of this book that I didn't like, but overall, I thought it was relevant because of the genuinely honest discussion that followed. I plan to brainstorm some ideas that would get people talking. 

2. UPraise at the Spirit Rock

Chapel had officially broken with tradition! We have been meeting at the Spirit Rock for 15 minutes of song, devotional scripture, and prayer. I even stepped out of my comfort zone and decided to play the percussion box (known as a cajon). Overall, I've had a fun experience! 


3. USCA Rush Week

Despite not getting accepted into Student Ambassadors, Rush Week was a fun experience. I got to mingle with fellow rushees and current ambassadors. I can't wait until next year rolls around, to be honest. 


4. Crowning a New Queen

I admit, crowning a new queen is something that is memorable, but not what you would expect. During the Corbin High School Homecoming game against Casey County, I crowned Alyssa Bishop as the 2015 Football Homecoming Queen. To be honest, I probably won't get that experience again in a long while. Still, I had a great time, but the night made me realize that college is a lot better than high school. 

5. Union College wins the Golden Can Trophy (Again!)

Union has collected a total of 5,082 pounds of canned goods, enough for over 10,000 for local families! For the fifth year in a row, we bested the University of the Cumberlands and won the coveted Golden Can trophy! 

My first semester of college has been memorable so far. Can't wait to see what lies ahead.

Since I have last updated this blog, I have found out that I have made the Dean's List for the fall semester. And since fall semester has come to a close, a new semester begins! First Two Years, Summarized

I recently completed my 2L year. All I have to say is, it is hellish.  I had some highs, and some pretty low lows. Nothing prepared me for how law school was going to go.  Since it is summer now, I want to get back and start writing again, one day at a time.  Although this blog post is going to be super short, law school has kept me busy. Now to wait for grades.

Unmasked

I've had a lot of things on my heart and mind lately. Somehow, I have entered a new season in my life without even realizing it. I'm not the same person I was a year ago. I've grown as a human being in retrospect realizing that everything happens for a reason. I've learned to embrace my weaknesses and will gladly boast in them, because God created me for a purpose. Interpreting social cues has been a long-standing weakness, even as I started this blog almost four years ago. Sometimes, when I read old posts, I do not recognize the person I was when I wrote them. Writing them was a way to channel the raw emotion I've held inside. Looking back, I could have channeled my emotions privately. I don't know for certain how the future will look like moving forward, but things are so much different now and I am still learning.
